Bentley Map V8i (SELECTseries 10) Help

Creating a Spatial Database Connection

The Map Interoperability dialog manages the connections to the spatial database. Select File -> Map Interoperability -> Connections

Only one database connection can be active in a session.

Connections can be ad-hoc or created as part of a Bentley Map project. An ad-hoc connection does not have defined feature types, symbology and property types. For spatial database editing, it is highly advisable to create a Bentley Map project by registering the spatial features using Bentley Geospatial Administrator.

Connection Tools

Operation

New Oracle Connection

Opens a new connection of the selected type

Open ORAX File

Opens a saved connection file. If Bentley Map was started from a project with a defined spatial graphical source, then that source will be available here

Save Connection

Creates a saved XML file detailing the connection parameters

Save as XML

Saves the current connection as

  • XML containing the connection parameters

  • Live DGN containing the connection parameters to the features defined in the connection. When the DGN file is opened, a password will be requested and the connection made. At that point all of the requested features will be queried into the DGN. (Oracle Spatial Only)

Remove Connection

Deletes the active connection. If any locks and edits are open when Delete Connection is selected then a prompt will be issued asking whether those changes should be posted.

Edit Feature Definitions

Edits the active connection parameters

Refresh Dynamic Domain Lists

Updates any dynamic domain lists

Select Oracle Version

Selects the version to use if working with Oracle Spatial. See c-Editing Spatial Database Features.

Spatial Tools

Operation

Query

Opens the Query form to perform a query. The last selected feature(s) will be active

Post Changes

Posts any modified features to the database

Lock

Locks the selected features based on the selected spatial extent

Unlock

Unlocks the selected features based on the selected spatial extent

Discard Changes

Discards any edits made in the current session

Erase Cached Instances

Erases any spatial features from the session based on the selected spatial extent.
Note: this does not delete features, it only removes them from the current session
